A video on Indian Military’s specialist unit of canines, educated to detect COVID-19 amongst personnel

Meet Casper and Jaya, the 2 ‘specialist’ military dogs trained to screen samples and detect COVID-19 instances. Casper is a two-year-old male Cocker Spaniel, and Jaya, a one-year-old feminine Chippiparai. They’re the primary two canines educated to detect COVID-19 instances from sweat and urine samples.

Since November 2020, Casper and Jaya have been deployed in Chandigarh and Delhi. They’ve been screening samples of troopers posted to ahead areas of the Northern Command.

A canine can display roughly 100 samples in an hour with a relaxation interval of 5 minutes after each 15 minutes.

Based on Lt. Col. Surender Saini, teacher on the Military’s Remount Veterinary Corps (RVC) in Meerut, these canines can detect COVID-19 with 95% accuracy.
